Hey guys, got some news for y’all. Good and/or bad, depending how you look at it.

First things first, the definite good things:

1. I got my laptop back, finally. All is working and I didn’t lose any progress on Ascension, so that’s nice.

2. I got a new desk and set up a semi-office, so I’ve got a hell of a lot more room to work, which is also nice. Expensive, but nice.

3. Worthington and I visited an event at the Art Institute building in Vancouver last night. We got to check out a prospective university and see the work the students there had made. Very interesting and fun stuff, some of the student projects were really damn good.

And now onto the bad/maybe bad news:

To make a long story short, Tangleworm is getting busier. He’s got things going on that are preventing him from working as much as we’d perhaps like. There’s nothing wrong with that, except that it means we’re going to have to make some important decisions. The truth of the matter is that if we continue with our current plans for Ascension, the game is going to take years to finish. We don’t have years, especially not with Tangleworm going off to university next fall.

So what are we going to do? Well, we had two options. One, quit Ascension and make smaller games. Or two, split up Ascension into a series of smaller, more dynamic ‘episodes’.

Guess which one we went with.

In short, what we’re doing now is redesigning the story and characters so that we can create our first episode. It’ll likely be around and hour in length and completely free to play. We’ll post that up and if people enjoy the game, we’ll make more. If they don’t, no harm done and we go on from there.

We’ll keep you all updated on how that project is going. It’s a compromise, to be sure, but it might be one that is ultimately beneficial than what we originally planned.

See you all soon!
